Meet the Narrator

Benedict Cumberbatch as FEAR

Benedict Cumberbatch as FEAR

“Since the dawn of humankind I have been associated with weakness. Wrongfully so, mind you. It is not frailty that courts me. It is courage.
Am I the shadow of despair, of doubt, of dread?
Yes. I am all of these things and more.
I am the whisperer of possibility, of passion, of purpose.
I am the catalyst for revolution, for innovation, for transformation.
I am Fear.
But do not be afraid.
I am not your foe. I am your friend. I steer you, not to avoid life, but to embrace it.
It is I who shouts for your survival, who pumps your veins with excitement, who guides you to opportunity and challenges you to act!
My reputation may have been tarnished over time, but you have to admit, I keep things interesting. I shake things up to make you feel more alive. I reveal the risks so you may reach for the rewards. I test you, not to see you fall, but to see you fly.
And fly you must, even when you think you haven’t the wings, for there are those who seek to clip them and steal your wind. Do not let them. They invoke my name, not to stir your spirit, but to strangle it.
Face me and you will find your footing.
Face me and you will forge your own fate.
Not convinced? Come, sit a spell with me. I’ve a story to share that may sway you, one that highlights my more favorable facets. Listen closely, for swimming beneath the surface of this slippery tale are underlying truths, unforeseen turns, and unimaginable treasures…”

Honestly, this week has been a hot mess. Between traveling for family vacation, a sick kiddo, and an unfortunate music industry debacle that, for a few days there, threatened the integrity of my EOS project, I’m tapped out. Please bear with me as I regroup and get back into the A to Z swing of things. I’ve enjoyed the first week of A to Z immensely, from meeting new talented folks, to sharing witty banter with dear friends, and look forward to the April adventures still to come.

Meet the Composers

RSM

Really Slow Motion, from CEO/Creative Director Agus Gonzalez-Lancharro, is a music and sound production team of experienced professionals whose main focus is Film, Game, TV and commercial media. They write, record, produce and mix under custom requests to provide powerful soundtracks and sound designs for all media projects. For editors, music supervisors or media professionals, they also have a catalog of licensable music for trailers available for a wide range of commercial projects.

Curious about the origins of their name? Check out Clothilde Lebrun’s 2013 interview with Agus Gonzalez-Lancharro for Trailer Music News:

Agus:  “I’ve always liked paradox and incoherence in names! But in this case, it made lots of sense to me. Really slow motion footage is so beautiful, you can observe every single detail in a very cinematic way that you wouldn’t normally spot in regular motion. When I was a kid, every time I watched a really slow motion capture I would be fascinated, watching it over and over again having some sort of music ringing on my mind while watching. Once said that, Really Slow Motion merges both motion picture and music, and that’s exactly what we do.”

Meet the Artist

B A I T E D

B A I T E D by Jenny Vyas

Jenny Vyas is a contemporary artist from the Chicagoland area. She is highly influenced by beauty in complex human emotions and attempts to reveal them through multiple nuances in expressions in her work. Her interest in human frailty shows in her monochromatic paintings where she creates abstracts of human silhouettes and fluctuating forms in half-light; all drawn from reality, personal experiences and memories through a process of simplification. Her artistic influences stream from music, poetry, books, artists like Rothko, Marina Abramović, JR, Andy Worhol, Jackson Pollock, Saitō Yoshishige, Maria Hafif, Da Vinci, Shakespeare and many more. Find her at Jenny Vyas, Twitter, FB, & Instagram.

Character Driven

As writers, we need to be more mindful when weaving literary worlds, for they have the power to impact the real one in which we live. Life is bumpy enough a road without writing ourselves into a hopeless ditch, where dystopia takes the wheel, and diversity the back seat. Fiction bleeds into reality through the veins of media, and it’s high time we replace it with new blood, preferably B Positive.

If we’re to change the world for the better, we must shift our reflection of it. We must create characters that command respect and embrace every culture, creed and chromosome. We must stop feeding the public insurmountable obstacles that starve them of hope and start proposing effective ways to overcome them. Our role isn’t to spread despair, but to conquer it. Life is character driven, and we’ve only one draft to get it right, so make your mark and make it matter.

ANNOUNCING THE “DON’T YOU HATE BOOK TOURS?” Book Tour!

Man, those were a lot of groans I heard out there when you read my title. Yeah, I know.  Don’t you hate it when you visit a blog only to see the same article about some darn new book you’ve already read on the past 10 blogs? But not here!  Thanks to my low boredom threshold, this post will be unlike any of the others I will write on my DON’T YOU HATE BOOK TOURS? Book Tour.

You want testimonials?  Hey, I got one…from Stephen King yet: “I could not put down Roland’s new book!  The moron put super-glue on the cover of the copy he sent me!”

You want SEX? (Me, too … but that’s another story all together). Here is a quote from my book that Stephen King cannot put down:

“McCord, I will make your last moments such ecstasy that you will not notice when I drink your soul.”

“Ah, could I take a rain-check on that?”

You want the blasted title of my new book?  Jeez, you want a lot, don’t you?

Oh, and NOW you want to know what it is about!  Man, you guys want a lot.

Think an insane Abraham Lincoln and a vampiric Benjamin Franklin out to kill the Texas Ranger who foiled their schemes on his honeymoon aboard the XANADU, the first Air/Steamship in 1867.

Think a bumbling Mark Twain and 11 year old Nikola Tesla making matters worse.

Think an evil immortal (no, not immoral! Jeez, I know where your minds are at!) woman trying to reign in her cruelty so as to hold onto her new husband for just a few days more.

Think mailing me $1000.  Ah, too much, huh?

And revealing my decided lack of humility, here is the audiomachine  music I would play in the movie adaptation of my novel when Captain Nemo fires upon the flying Xanadu as it blasts its own weapons at the Nautilus in a dizzying duel of futuristic vessels.

audiomachine – Chronicles – Sands of Time – Paul Dinletir

Do you guys imagine your novels becoming movies?  Aw, c’mon.  You know you do!  🙂

Come this March, you, too, can board the Xanadu for an adventure of a lifetime!  Passage only $9.99. Book your tickets HERE!

Lost and Found

Colossal Trailer Music – Headless Body in Topless Bar – Moon Spell – Alexandros Nikolaidis

Welcome to Mik’s “Lost and Found” Bar & Grill, where the drinks are spellbinding, the house special comes with a side of mystery, and love is a dish best served hot, and headless.

Colossal Trailer Music – Headless Body in Topless Bar – Snow Angels – Benjamin Zecker

We never forget our first love. They leave an indelible mark on our hearts. One of my fondest middle school romance memories takes me back to Las Cruces, NM, where I met my first young love, a charmingly adorable Latino boy.

One night, we cuddled under a pile of blankets and watched Edward Scissorhands, a romantic dark fantasy film directed by bizarre genius, Tim Burton. It was the first time I recall enjoying a love story (perhaps the make-out session helped). I adored this extraordinarily odd tale, and fell in love with the whimsical score Elfman wove around it. That moment forever cemented my fondness for all things Elfman and Burton.

I fell pretty hard for the boy, too. But, we moved far away shortly after. To his credit, he wrote me love letters for well over a year. I have them still…

In the spirit of Danny Elfman, one of my favorite and most distinctive film composers, I’m hosting a delightfully strange writing adventure in collaboration with Colossal Trailer Music, where YOU, dear readers, will have the chance to be immortalized as a quirky character in our bizarre, but heartwarming, love story.

Lost and Found Challenge

Share your favorite Danny Elfman score/film in the comments section below by February 15th, and Colossal Trailer Music and I will choose three commenters to star as characters in our bizarre Tim Burton-style love story, “Lost and Found”, debuting February 17-19 during WEP’s Valentines challenge! Swing by to read our story for a chance to WIN a digital copy of Colossal’s enchanting Elfman-inspired album, Headless Body in Topless Bar!

The Magic of Muggles

Born to Be Quote Necklace

Eleven years ago today, on a misty southern morning, a Muggle mother met her magical little girl. A willful bundle of beauty, the wee baby was so enamored with the waking world that she never slept for more than a wink. As her wispy charm grew, so did her uncanny ability to transform the everyday into the extraordinary. With the soul of an artist and mind of an inventor, the young girl was bound for nothing short of greatness.

She sought the stories of others, like herself, who were kind, creative and courageous. Stories that stirred her imagination. Stories that encouraged daring and dreaming. She discovered kindred spirits in the characters created by a renowned Muggle mind, and they made an indelible mark on her journey to becoming who she is meant to be.

Muggles possess their own kind of magic. It is a simple, yet powerful force of positive energy that, once cast, will guide and protect and strengthen the spirit.
