Sam I Am

Embracing my inner-Muse, photography by Celia Tabitha

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”
Dr. Seuss

Speculative fiction author. Storyteller for film, tv, streaming media, gaming, and trailer music industries. Creative. Dreamer. Rebel. Activist. Philanthropist. Mentor. Ambassador of artistry, wine & coffee.

It is the writer who might catch the imagination of young people, and plant a seed that will flower and come to fruition.
― Isaac Asimov

Biochemist by degreecreative and comical by design, my alter ego, Samantha Geary Jones, kicked off her career as a Genetic Research Scientist, Pharmaceutical QC/ Research & Development Chemist, Pharma Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Scientific Consultant, Pharmaceutical Sales Rep and PR specialist. Lastly, recruited by the FBI for forensics as a Special Agent (my brief, badass moment and truly the nail in the coffin for running). Eventually, I settled down and took on the most rewarding and challenging job there is. Parenthood.

“When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.”
 ― Henry David Thoreau

Music is my Muse. The key to unlocking my imagination lies within the soul of the notes. Through groundbreaking collaborations with brilliant composers, musicians and artists from around the world, I’ve fused my passion for music and storytelling into innovative cross-industry events that speak to the dreamer in all of us.

“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.”
― Leonardo da Vinci

I see the magic that surrounds us and the possibilities that live in everyday moments. I push the boundaries of technology and challenge the powers that be. I embrace the emerging creative movement of positive futurism where we consciously turn away from the defeatist apocalyptic momentum and work towards restoring the balance between humanity and nature, while fostering relationships built on mutual respect.

Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind is written large in his works.
― Virginia Woolf

I believe in infusing fantastical fiction with progressive messages surrounding social and political commentary, while delving into the inner workings of the human condition, for well chosen words have the power to influence and evoke change. A sense of humor is paramount in my world, so expect some comic relief. But life, and writing, is about striking a balance. Heartstrings will be pulled with a lyrical touch. Spirits will be tested, but not broken. Characters will reflect the rich diversity of the world in which we live. They will struggle and slip and learn to soar. Some will fail. But even in the face of failure there is growth. It’s in the grips of growing that fate finds its footing.

“You have to do tricks with pacing, alternate long sentences with short, to keep it vital and alive. Virtually every page is a cliffhanger―you’ve got to force them to turn it.”
― Dr. Seuss

From feature film scripts and YouTube serials, network series and short films, live performances and video game storyboards, to cross-industry anthologies, short stories and YA novels, I create compelling artistic visions under the steady influence of locally roasted coffee, including the upcoming YA fantasy series, Architects of Illusion, inspired by my backyard neighbors, Biltmore Estate, and its spinoff series, Of Myth And Memory.

“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”
Anna Quindlen

“Books are bound with immeasurable magic. Words should be wielded wisely, for they’ve the power to influence the minds of many, and the hearts of many more. Pages strung with silence are not, by themselves, remarkable. But, when read, words light from within, forging connections that charge the imagination and spark the senses. Though these words may flicker and fade over time, the feelings from the journey remain a part of us forever.”

  1. I enjoyed your bio! Partly because sci-fi and humor are part of my equation as well. (Btw, I have a couple flash fiction stories incorporating both upcoming on Flash Fiction Fridays in April and May. Not sure of the dates.) And I admire working mothers!

  2. So nice to meet you Sam! 🙂
Such a fascinating biography! You sound like a multi-talented lady.
I’m also a musician… I play, read, sing… and I tutor 2 school choirs as well as my private piano and voice students…
I really, really enjoy writing flash fiction and MAY one day decide to publish a collection of flash fic that I’ve written over the past two years… we’ll see…

  6. Each of your A to Z posts are so well written and include so much imagery that I googled your name looking for your books. I hope novels are on your someday list as each would surely be a good read.

  7. Hi Sam,

Hope all is well now the A to Z has finished. I actually took a look at the photos which accompanied your posts today. I can see where the idea for the book came from, such a magnificent place.

P.S. How is the book coming along by the way? 😉
